The Kalamazoo Civic Theatre presents Radium Girls, November 8-17, 2024
Radium Girls is a gripping play that tells the true story of the young women who worked for the U.S. Radium Corporation in Orange, NJ, in the 1910s and 20s, painting watch dials with luminescent radium paint. Exposed to the substance on a regular basis without being apprised of, or protected from, its highly toxic nature, many of the dial painters who worked in this plant and others suffered catastrophic and fatal illnesses as a result of their work. Radium Girls tells the story of dial painter Grace Fryer and others who courageously stood up to the company against seemingly insurmountable odds.
