Interdisciplinary-artist avery r. young and his funk soul associates de deacon board present a sound monument for blk: and male-maleness dissecting the term/word BOY. With language, sound, and movement the performance merges personal, fictional, and historical narratives. This work will include the premier of baar [or mr. booker from now on] which is a new aria from his upcoming opera, Safronia.* The piece also includes emmett [til de remix] and two newer works: county dr. and mtu[.], which is a sound piece included in Unmasking Masculinity for the 21st Century. *Commissioned by the Lyric Opera of Chicago.
