|Supporting local has never been more important to us than it is now – with yesterday’s stay-at-home order made by Governor Whitmer, downtown businesses are in need of community support more than ever. With the public health the top priority, our team is all about giving you the most up-to-date information on how to support your local downtown businesses. |
Community brings $70,000 to downtown businesses
We want to thank our amazing community for their support of downtown Kalamazoo businesses through the Downtown Kalamazoo Gift Card Stimulus Program, which added $10 to any $25 gift card purchased for a participating downtown business.
In the first 72 hours, more than 350 community members purchased 1,000 gift cards, bringing $35,000 directly to downtown businesses. Due to the overwhelming response of support, we extended the program, doubling our investment by offering $10 bonuses for another 1,000 gift cards – those sold out in less than 36 hours.
In total, more than 650 individuals purchased 2,000 gift cards across nearly 70 downtown businesses, bringing $70,000 directly into the downtown economy.
If you purchased gift cards through this program, please know we are working diligently to mail orders out to you as soon as possible, with consideration for the Governor’s order.
How to continue your support of Downtown
While the $10 bonus for gift card purchases is sold out, you can continue to show your support for downtown businesses by purchasing gift cards online, online shopping, and ordering take-out and delivery. In this time of uncertainty for small business owners, every dollar matters.
Our team is hard at work developing a webpage that lists all downtown businesses offering takeout, delivery, online shopping options and gift cards. Make sure to check this link for the most up-to-date information.
If you are a downtown business with an update, please send us an email with your update.
One final note…
Our team recognizes the impact COVID-19 is having and will continue to have on our community. Please follow CDC recommendations to protect yourself and others while we work together to get through this time. Stay safe, stay healthy.
