Downtown Kalamazoo Summer Restaurant is back for another season of great food and beverages from locally-owned area restaurants. Typically hosted in the month of July, Summer Restaurant Week is designed to invite guests from West Michigan and the surrounding areas to try featured menu offerings from downtown restaurants that highlight what makes them special during the warmer months.
While the onset of the pandemic initially paused the planning of this week, it was ultimately decided to host the event in September to support local downtown businesses while outdoor seating is still available for diners.
“It is more important than ever to continue to support local businesses that are the fabric of our community, and what better way to do that than by trying specially-created menu items from one of downtown’s many unique restaurants,” said the Kalamazoo Downtown Partnership’s Communications and Marketing Manager Meghan Behymer. “Whether you are looking to dine at your favorite downtown spot or try something new, there are so many delicious options during Restaurant Week.”
Participating restaurants are asked to create menu offerings that are available for dine-in, dine-out, and/or takeout this year. The menus are priced at $10, $25, and/or $35 offering something for every guest to enjoy. New to this year is a $49 Family Meal option that restaurants can choose to offer. This option has been added due to the increased popularity of multi-person takeout meals.
In addition to food offerings, a fan favorite element of the week is back as well, the Cocktail Competition. Participating restaurants are crafting delicious cocktails in partnership with New Holland Spirits and Red Bull. Diners can purchase a featured cocktail and vote for their favorite at kalamazoorestaurantweek.com. Some restaurants even offer cocktails to-go! With Downtown Kalamazoo’s new social district and Central Commons Refreshment Area, this is a great time to dine in Downtown.
During these times and always, the health and safety of Restaurant Week diners and staff at each participating location and in our community are top priorities. Each restaurant is required to follow all local and state regulations, as well as CDC recommendations for safe dining practices. Diners can expect to see some modifications to the dining experience at various locations, i.e. menus accessed via QR codes, limited condiments and utensils on tables, expanded outdoor seating, hand sanitizing stations, etc.
All are invited to experience Downtown Kalamazoo Restaurant Week, whether it be by ordering takeout, visiting an old favorite for a meal inside or outdoors, or grabbing a cocktail to enjoy with friends. We ask that diners be patient, respectful, and support participating restaurants and their teams as we all navigate these times.
Menus of participating Downtown Kalamazoo Summer Restaurant Week locations can be found beginning Thursday, Sept 10 at kalamazoorestaurantweek.com/menus. For other details including a photo competition and free Restaurant Week parking, head to our home page.
This event is made possible by the combined efforts of the Kalamazoo Downtown Partnership, Downtown Kalamazoo Retail & Restaurant Association, and downtown community businesses and partners.
