New plan allows downtown Kalamazoo businesses to expand into outdoor, public spaces

Downtown Kalamazoo streets and sidewalks could soon be transformed into outdoor dining and shopping areas.

It’s part of a plan to rethink the use of public spaces and street space, in light of the COVID-19 pandemic.

On Thursday, July 2, 2020, Kalamazoo Downtown Partnership and Kalamazoo city officials announced a new collaborative effort to offer businesses opportunities to use public space for dining, retail sales and services.
