Downtown Business Support Two weeks ago, Governor Whitmer announced an executive order to stay-at-home. Our team is continuing to work diligently to support downtown businesses and we encourage you to show your support as well. Check out our Downtown Kalamazoo COVID-19 website with information about downtown businesses offering takeout, delivery, online shopping options and gift cards, as well as resources available to businesses through regional, state and federal programs. Remember to order takeout, tip generously, buy gift cards and shop online to support businesses that remain open during this time. Our community is resilient, and each of us has a role to play.
Kalamazoo inspires downtowns across the country
More than 650 members of our community purchased 2,000 gift cards in 5 days to bring $70,000 directly to downtown businesses through our Downtown Kalamazoo Gift Card Stimulus Program. The success of the program caught the attention of organizations representing downtowns across the country, and has already been successfully replicated in Tucson, Arizona and Anchorage, Alaska. Thank you to our community and our team – not only for the support of our Kalamazoo downtown businesses, but also for being a part of an initiative that is being employed to support businesses across the country.
Upcoming Downtown Events
The Kalamazoo Downtown Partnership has cancelled its annual community volunteer event, Spring Spruce UP DOWNtown. The event was originally scheduled for Earth Day, April 22. All efforts will be made to spruce up our downtown in advance of the many great summer events scheduled. We will make sure to keep the community updated on any changes in events.
Closure of Arcadia Creek Festival Place
Effective April 7, 2020, in accordance with the City of Kalamazoo’s closure of parks, and in the hopes of further curbing the spread of COVID-19, the Arcadia Creek Festival Place will be closed until further notice.
One last thing…
Our team recognizes the impact COVID-19 is having and will continue to have on our community. Please follow CDC recommendations to protect yourself and others while we work together to get through this time. Stay safe, stay healthy. | |
