This holiday season, the Kalamazoo Downtown Partnership urges the community to join the nationwide movement to support local by shopping downtown Kalamazoo businesses on Small Business Saturday.
“We encourage everyone to support local businesses every day of the year, but especially on Small Business Saturday,” Kalamazoo Downtown Partnership President Andrew Haan said. “Local businesses are part of the fabric of our community and critical to the economic success of downtown. Supporting downtown businesses is supporting your community.”
Exclusive to this year’s event on Saturday, November 27, Consumers Energy will be giving away FREE $10 Downtown Dollars gift certificates from 11 a.m. – 2 p.m., across from Lana’s Boutique on the Kalamazoo Mall. While supplies last.
“Kalamazoo’s small businesses are the backbone of this community, and Small Business Saturday is a day we should celebrate!” said Lauren Youngdahl Snyder, Consumers Energy’s Vice President of Customer Experience. “With the Downtown Dollars program, our goal is to encourage shoppers to ‘shop local’ and support the small businesses we know and love. We look forward to seeing the community come out strong for the Kalamazoo community on November 27.”
Small Business Saturday is one of many business support efforts the Kalamazoo Downtown Partnership is spearheading this holiday season to bring cheer to the community and dollars to businesses.
Downtown Dollars BOGO deal a huge success
On Nov. 5, the Downtown Dollars BOGO deal launched – giving a free $10 for every $20 purchased. In just a week’s time, more than $30,000 was added into the Downtown Dollars program – dollars that can be spent at 50+ participating downtown restaurants, shops, and businesses.
Downtown Dollars can be used right on your phone or printed off for a simple shopping experience. Available for purchase at https://bit.ly/3CXh9S4
Small Business Saturday(s)
The Kalamazoo Downtown Partnership is also bringing back its Small Business Saturday(s) promotion, hoping to bring cheer to the community and dollars to downtown businesses.
Every Saturday in December is “Small Business Saturday.” That means even more chances to snag the perfect holiday gift – all while supporting local.
Many of the businesses will host in-store promotions and specials throughout the holiday season. Plus, when shopping at a downtown retailer, customers will receive a limited-edition reusable holiday retail shopping bag, while supplies last.

Downtown Kalamazoo holiday programming and business support initiatives would not be possible without the help of its overall holiday sponsor, Consumers Energy, and the support of the Irving S. Gilmore Foundation. Special thanks to all the holiday sponsors, including the Radisson Plaza Hotel, Black Arts & Cultural Center, Meijer, ABM, Kalamazoo Valley Museum, Kalamazoo Valley Community College, Honor Credit Union, Two Men & A Truck, Peregrine Company, and Discover Kalamazoo.
