Downtown Kalamazoo kicks off an event-filled summer
The Kalamazoo Downtown Partnership has been busy preparing for the 2019 event season and are excited to share information on events that will take place throughout Downtown Kalamazoo.
This summer, we are thrilled to be adding more than 30 events to our schedule through the launch of several summer series. The following is an outline of event details for events scheduled to take place in Downtown Kalamazoo.
Beats on Bates is a weekly summer live music series launching Wednesday, June 5 and will continue each Wednesday through August 28. Grab drinks or dinner at one of the Bates Alley businesses (Olde Peninsula, fuze kitchen and bar, Grand Traverse Distillery, Green Top Tavern, Tempo Vino Winery, Coney Island and Ouzos European Grill). The Beats on Bates Entertainment Schedule:
- June 5 – Out Front Kalamazoo, Pride Festival artists including DJ Disobedience
- June 12 – Jazz Creative & Institute
- June 19 – So Long Belladonna (sponsored by Central City Parking)
- June 26 – Black Arts & Cultural Center

- July 24 – Big Trouble
- July 31 – Megan Dooley & Yolonda Lavender
- August 7 – Out of Favor Boys
- August 14 – Schlitz Creek (sponsored by The Arts Council of Greater Kalamazoo)

Workout Wednesdays, is a weekly fitness class series beginning Wednesday, June 5 and continuing each Wednesday through August at 5:30 p.m. at the Arcadia Creek Festival Place. Enjoy a variety of FREE workout genres presented by local businesses:

Autos & Eats On The Alley, presented by Fresh Coast Auto Detail, will be rollin’ into Downtown Kalamazoo, June 15, 5-8pm. This is an outdoor event for car enthusiasts that will take place under the lights of beautiful Bates Alley. A variety of exotic vehicles will be highlighted on the alley, along with vehicles in the attached lot. Enjoy Jazz music, outdoor dining or your favorite beverage, at Olde Peninsula, fuze kitchen & bar, Green Top Tavern, Coney Island, Grand Traverse Distillery, Tempo Vino Winery, or Ouzos. Free to the public.
Zoo Moto Vintage Bikes on Batesmotorcycle event will we be hosted on four Sundays throughout the summer in and around the newly renovated Bates Alley in Downtown Kalamazoo, this series features a mix of vintage and custom European, Japanese, and American bikes, along with custom shops, vendors, and great food offerings from the restaurants lining the Alley. Plan on dropping in on your Sunday ride. The Zoo Moto Show offers an experience new to Kalamazoo. Dates & hours: 10 a.m. – 2 p.m. on the 3rd Sunday of each month June – Sept: June 16, July 21, August 18, and September 15.
Vintage In The Zoo HOP-UP Block Party, will take place the first Friday of the Month, June - October, 4-8pm. This event will feature a tightly curated/rotating selection of the best local vendors you have come to know. Artists, music, and a soon to be announced large-scale community art project!
VITZ will be partnering with businesses adjacent to Bates Alley in celebration of this great new venue.
June 7 HOP-UP will be partnering with Grand Traverse Distillery. Come enjoy their beautiful mock-tails they will serving in the Alley. Event after party at their location! Dates & hours: this event is scheduled to take place on Art Hop Fridays, June - October, 4 – 8p.m
