Meghan Behymer

Office Coordinator

Meghan began working at Kalamazoo Downtown Partnership in April 2018. She manages the calendars, Board files, and general flow of office operations. She assists with marketing, event planning and graphic design work. 

Andrew Haan

President

Andrew Haan brings over 10 years of experience to his position at Kalamazoo Downtown Partnership. Most recently, Haan served as Associate Director of the Governor’s Office of Urban Initiatives, working to establish and maintain collaborations with state departments, local governments, the foundation community, residents, and businesses to create and support initiatives that catalyze economic development. Haan also partnered with the City of Kalamazoo to convene and design Kalamazoo’s Urban Growth Initiative, an ongoing partnership between the City, local anchor institutions, downtown businesses, philanthropy, state departments, and economic development partners to identify transformative projects and strategies to grow the economy of Greater Downtown Kalamazoo. Prior to being appointed to the Governor’s Office, Haan was the Executive Director of Downtown Muskegon Now, the lead promotion, events, and development entity in Muskegon.

Patrick Halpin

Planning and Development Coordinator

Patrick Halpin began working at Kalamazoo Downtown Partnership in the summer of 2015 assisting with the Arcadia Creek Festival Place before joining the team as the Planning and Development Coordinator. Patrick holds a Bachelor’s and Master’s degree from Western Michigan University, and he has been a downtown resident for many years and has been a part of revitalizing many downtown buildings through his company Southwest Builders, Inc. He has experience overseeing the festival site and assisting with downtown maintenance projects, as well as planning, bidding, managing, and budgeting for commercial building projects. Patrick oversees CIP, Safety, and DDACC Committees, monitors downtown maintenance and ACFP, and assists with downtown development projects.

Deb Houseman

Finance Director

Deb Houseman has been the Finance Director for Kalamazoo Downtown Partnership since July of 2008. She manages the accounting for all of the Kalamazoo Downtown Partnership entities and performs payroll and various other human resource responsibilities. Deb has 27 years of experience in accounting.

Sue Huggett

Marketing and Engagement Manager

Sue Huggett started at Kalamazoo Downtown Partnership in March 2016 after serving in various Director positions at the YMCA of Lansing. Her experience includes creating strategic marketing/communication plans, grant writing and fundraising, event planning, and advertising sales. Sue holds a B.A. from Michigan State University in Communications. She oversees DKI's Brand & Engagement Committee and Business Recruitment Retention Committee, manages downtown events, assists with grant writing and fundraising, and is DKI's marketing and PR contact among other things.

Jennifer Jelenek

Vice President of Business Development

Jennifer arrived in Kalamazoo, Michigan from New York, New York, where she served as Director of the Business Improvement District (BID) Program for the City of New York network of 75 BIDs. In that role, she guided BID development and oversight policy, oversaw BID formation and expansion efforts citywide, ensured BID compliance with contractual and legal obligations, shaped BID capacity building services, and represented the Mayor on BID Boards of Directors across the City. Prior to her time in NYC, Jennifer completed two years of service in the Peace Corps in Moldova where she worked as consultant for a regional development agency to build organizational capacity and shape development priorities.

During her 10 years of experience in the public and nonprofit sectors, Jennifer has held roles with Southwest Michigan First, the New York City Economic Development Corporation, Arizona State University and the Phoenix City Council.

Jennifer holds a Master of Public Administration in International Policy and Urban Planning from New York University and a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from Arizona State University. She speaks Romanian and Spanish.

Sharlene Stockwell

Finance Assistant

Sharlene Stockwell has worked in accounting for Kalamazoo Downtown Partnership since March of 2004. Shar is responsible for performing the accounts payable and accounts receivable functions for all of the DKI entities and assists in various other accounting duties.
